SC Library Receives $150K Grant from FMH Foundation

The Schleicher County Public Library (SCPL) has been awarded a $150,000 grant from the FMH Foundation to assist in the building renovations / equipment, furnishings, and security / technology equipment for the new public library at the Eldorado Service Center (ESC).

Hospital District Trustees Meet, Cancel May 5th Election

The Schleicher County Hospital District board of trustees met Monday evening, March 25th and voted to certify a slate of four unopposed candidates for office to be duly elected. The four candidates, including Susie Richters, Denese Capps, Chuck Jones and Lonnie Middleton, are all incumbents.

UIL Students Read for Woman’s Club

In an annual tradition, Eldorado High School UIL oral readers present outstanding readings for members of the Eldorado Woman’s Club in March. This year was no exception. Coached by Jennifer Doran, six students read their UIL selections for the group during their meeting on March 19.

EHS Track Athletes Compete in Sterling City
EHS boys competed at 2024 Sterling City Relays on March 19th. The varsity boys placed first with a score of 129. The varsity girls did not compete. Meanwhile, the girls JV team placed first with a score of 88. The JV boys placed second with 124 points. Individual results follow below.

Eldorado High School track and field athletes competed Thursday, March 14th in the ASU Spring Break Invitational Track Meet.

Alejandra Alegria, Nyomi Aranda and Mari Cruz Esparza each claimed a medal in their respective events as they led the Eldorado Lady Eagles powerlifting team to its second straight Texas High School Womens Powerlifting Association 1A-2A State Championship on March 13th in Frisco.

ROAD RAGE: Eagles Plate 45 Runs in 3 Games in Van Horn
The Eldorado Eagles baseball traveled to Van Horn twice and outscored a pair of District 5-2A opponents 45-4 in three games. The Eagles downed the Van Horn Eagles 20-0 on their home field on February 8th. The 45-4 margin over three games might have been even more lopsided, but Van Horn forfeited the second game of a scheduled double header.
OFF AND RUNNING -- Logan Prater takes the baton from Addie Walling as the EHS girls 4x100 Meter Relay tam competed at the Ozona Relays on Thursday, March 7th. Walling, Prater, Mallory Okerson and Micah McGee placed second with a time of 51.11, their best of the season. Prater would go on to the win the 100 M Dash with a time of 12:31, breaking her old record of 12.35 set just last year. -- KATHY MANKIN | THE ELDORADO SUCCESS

State Immigration Law Again on Hold Pending Court Decision
The on-again, off-again state immigration law is once more on hold while the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals considers its constitutionality. Senate Bill 4 would allow state and local law enforcement officials to arrest and deport people suspected of entering the state illegally from Mexico, the Austin American-Statesman reported.

Recent estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau indicate that six of the 10 fastest-growing counties in the United States from 2022 to 2023 were in Texas.
